Why recipe apps are built for one person - and what a household actually needs

Open most recipe apps and the assumption underneath the design is the same: one library, one set of preferences, one person deciding what's for dinner. That's a reasonable default for a habit tracker. It's a strange one for a kitchen, because most kitchens aren't used by one person.

What "household" actually means here

A household is the group of people who actually cook from the same kitchen - a couple, a family, flatmates, someone planning meals for a parent who lives nearby. Not an address, not a family tree. Just: who's eating from this plan.

Where single-user design breaks down

Single-user design doesn't fail loudly. It shows up in small, familiar moments:
